• When the temperature of an object is adjusted by heat transfer, it has the tendency to grow in size in terms of area, volume, and shape. It is called thermal expansion.
• The expansion of an object on heating is used for fixing of iron rim to wooden wheel of a cart.
• The tracks are formed of two metal rods that are linked together, but minor gaps are left between them since metal rods expand when heated in the summer.
