6 dm3 of dry gas is present at temperature of 27°C and pressure of 700 mm of Hg. Determine the volume of gas at STP.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1- Given data

Initial volume, V1 = 6 dm³ Final volume, V₂ =?

Initial pressure, p₁=700 mm of Hg Final pressure, p₂ = 760 mm of Hg

Initial temperature, T₂ = 27+273=300 K

Final temperature, T₂ = 273 K

Step 2- Write the formula:

Applying the ideal gas equation,

p1V1T1=p2V2T2

Step 3- Put the given values

700×6300= 760xV273

700x6x273300×760

=5.02 dm3

Hence, the volume of gas at STP is 5.02 dm3
