Burning different types of yarns results in different observations. let's discuss them one by one.

Observations on different yarns:

Cotton:

  • If the yarns are cotton, they will burn but not shrink or melt.
  • The odour of burning yarn is comparable to that of burning paper. This is because both paper and cotton has Cellulose.

Silk:

  • The silk yarn shrinks and burns but does not melt when exposed to the flame.
  • It has a burned meat odour to it.
