Chlorine (Cl) is a greenish-yellow gas and has a suffocating and pungent smell.

Chlorine rarely occurs freely in nature and is the third most abundant element found in the ocean.

Part II - Uses of chlorine:

  • Chlorine is employed in the sterilization of drinking water so as to kill bacteria and fungi and make it potable drinking water.
  • Chorine is employed in the manufacturing of hydrochloric acid (HCl) in the laboratory
