Question

6. What will happen if we use up too much of the groundwater?

Solution

  • The water from rain that falls on the earth's surface flows mainly into rivers and seas. But some of the water seeps through the ground and is available to us. This water is called groundwater and its reservoirs are called aquifers.
  • We can use this water by drawing it out from the aquifers using a tubewell or borewell.
  • But, if too much of this groundwater is used up, the water table of the area will go down. Then, we will have to dig deeper to reach the groundwater. And slowly we may exhaust the groundwater supply in the area.
  • Therefore, we must use our groundwater wisely, reduce the wastage of water and work towards replenishing it.
