60% of oranges in a basket were spoilt. If the basket contained 640 oranges,

Find the number of good oranges.

Step 1 : Find the percentage of good oranges first, since total percentage is 100, we subtract percentage of spoilt oranges from 100

100-60=40

so 40% of the oranges are good oranges.

Step 2 : Convert the given percentage to fraction by dividing it with 100,

40100 is the required fraction

Step 3 : Since 40% of the oranges were good, if we multiply it with the total number of oranges we will get the number of good oranges.

=40100×640=410×640=4×64=256

Hence 256 oranges are good
