Part I - About glass

Glass is a supercooled liquid and flows away over a period of time. Hence the glass of the window appears thick at the bottom and thin on the top.

Part II - Major techniques

• Blowing of glass - It is used in the preparation of laboratory glass and glass bottles.
• Optical Glass - Here the molten glass is compressed and changed into circular shapes from which different types of optical glasses are prepared.
• Sheet Glass - Here the molten glass is obtained from the glass tank furnace and then is placed on the molten tin bath which ultimately leads to the spreading of molten glass on the bath evenly and with uniform thickness. Thereafter sheet glass is obtained from the tin bath
