Solution

The correct option is C 4
Total number of garlands = 2,398
Number of people who buy the garlands = 7

To determine the left out garlands, we have to calculate the value of 2398 ÷ 7 and find out the remainder.

Let us solve this through partial quotient method.

First, we write the values inside the long division bracket.

We find an easier multiple of the divisor 7, which is closer to the dividend 2398.

Now, we subtract the multiple, 2100 from the dividend 2398 and write the partial quotients in the right column.

Let's keep repeating the process until the dividend is reduced to zero or the remainder is less than the divisor.

We add all the partial quotients to get the final quotient.

∴ Final quotient = 300 + 40 + 2 = 342
Remainder = 4

Hence, 4 garlands are left out.
