Chlorophyll:

  1. Chlorophyll is a green-coloured pigment found only in the chloroplast of plants.
  2. Chlorophyll absorbs the sunlight which is necessary for photosynthesis.

Structure of Chlorophyll:

  1. Chlorophyll is a porphyrin derivative.
  2. Chlorophyll contains a central magnesium atom.
  3. Magnesium is bonded with four nitrogen atoms and it forms a pyrrole ring structures with four carbon and nitrogen.
  4. Chlorophyll contains a hydrocarbon end.
  5. The four pyrrole rings with magnesium and nitrogen together known as porphyrin head and the hydrocarbon end is called phytol tail.
