8. What is dry ice? How is it used?
Part-1: Dry ice
Frozen carbon dioxide has a surface temperature of -78.5 °C and is called dry ice. Dry ice sublimes, converting directly from solid-state to carbon dioxide gas.
Part-2: Uses
The cold temperature and the property of sublimation make carbon dioxide a useful refrigerant. When items are packed in dry ice and sent over long distances, they stay frozen and there is no messy liquid to clean up.
