A 10 kg block is kept on a horizontal surface and Ram is trying to pull it with a force of 5 N. Given coefficient of static friction is 0.2 and coefficient of Kinetic friction μK = 0.1 Which of these statements is/are correct.
He won't succeed in pulling the block as force applied is only 5N whereas friction force can resist up to 20N.
To move a body on a rough surface you need to apply a force greater than the limiting value of state friction.
If the external force's value is less than that of limiting friction, it will oppose with equal amount of force
Here limiting friction μs N = 0.2 × 10 × 10 = 20N
So friction can vary from 0 - 20N depending upon how much force you apply.
So if you push with 5N you won't be able to move the block and the block will resist with friction force in opposite direction of 5N.
