Question

A 10 MHz sinusoidal carrier wave of amplitude 10mV is modulated by a 5 kHz sinusoidal audio signal wave of amplitude 6mV. Find the frequency components of the resultant modulated wave and their amplitudes.

Open in App
Solution

Data given:
Frequency of carrier=fc=10MHz
frequency of the signal=fs=5KHz=0.005MHz
Amplitude of carrier signal=Ec=10mV
Amplitude of audio signal=Es=6mV
solution
The modulated carrier wave contains the folloeing frequencies:
  1. Original carrier wave of frequency=fc=10MHz
  2. upper side band,fc+fs=10+0.005=10.005MHz
  3. Lower side band frequency fcfs=100.005=9.995MHz
The modulation factor μ=AmAc=610=0.6
Amplitude =μAc2=3mV
