Solution

Given,

Average speed, Vavg=40 km/h

Total duration of tour, t=10 hr

So, the total distance covered,

d=Vavg×t=40 ×10=400 km

For first half bus speed was 30 km/h,

Thus time taken to cover (d2=200 km) is
t1=20030=6.66 hr.

Thus bus covered remining 200 km in
t2=106.66=3.34 hr

Its average speed during second half is

Vn=2003.3460 km/h

Hence, option (c) is the correct answer.

Alternate solution:

Average speed Vavg=2V1V2V1+V2

40=2×30×V230+V2

1200+40V2=60V2

V2=60 km/h

Accepted answer : 60
