Question

A 1000 N thrust acting on a surface can exert a pressure of a million pascals. What will be the area (in cm2) of the surface bearing the pressure?

Open in App
Solution

Given:
Thrust, F=1000 N
Pressure generated, P=106 Pa=10,00,000 Pa
Let the area of the surface be A.
Pressure acting on a surface is given by P=FA
A=FP=1000 N10,00,000 Pa

A=11000 m2

[1 m2=104 cm2]

A=11000×104 cm2=10 cm2

Therefore, the area bearing the pressure is 10 sq.cm.
