He won't succeed in pulling the block as force applied is only 5N whereas friction force can resist up to 20N.


To move a body on a rough surface you need to apply a force greater than the limiting value of state friction.
If the external force's value is less than that of limiting friction, it will oppose with equal amount of force


Here limiting friction μsN=0.2×10×10=20N
So friction can vary from 0 - 20N depending upon how much force you apply. So if you push with 5N you won't be able to move the block and the block will resist with friction force in opposite direction of 5N.
