Question

A 2 m long metallic rod rotates with an angular frequency of 200rads1 about an axis normal to the rod passing through its one end. The other end of the rod is in contact with a circular metallic ring. A constant magnetic field of 0.5 T parallel to the axis exists everywhere. The emf developed between the centre and the ring is then

Solution

The correct option is A 200 V
Given,
Length of the rod, l=2 m
Angular frequency ,ω=200rad/s
Magnetic field strength B=0.5 T

One end of the rod has zero linear velocity while another end of the rod has a linear velocity of lω

Therefore, Average linear velocity of the end, v=lω2

E.M.F developed between the center and ring,
ε=Blv=Bωl22

=0.5×200×222=200 V

Hence option (B) is correct.
