A 20 kVA, 2000 V/200 V, two winding transformer is to be used as a step up auto transformer with a constant source voltage of 2000 V. If the efficiency of the two winding transformer at full load 0.7 p.f. lagging is 97%, the efficiency of the auto transformer at same p.f at full load will be ___________%

From the diagram shown :
We can write, Transformation ratio

aauto=22002000=1110

Also we know that, rating of auto transformer ;

Sauto=ST.W(11a)=20 kVA(11011)=220 KVA

Efficiency of two winding transformer :

ηT.W=20×103×0.720×103×0.7+PL

Where PL = total losses

0.97=14×100014000+PL

Solving we get PL = 433 W

Now efficiency for auto transformer :

ηauto=220×0.7220×0.7+0.433

=154154+0.433×100%

ηauto=99.72%
