A 35.0 kg girl is swinging on a large swing with very long-weight ropes holding it, Another 35.0 kg girl jumps on while the first girl is swinging, and sits right next to the first girl. How does the new period of the swinging system with two girls compare to the old swinging system with just one girl?
The time period of T a simple pendulum of length l is given by ,
T=2π√l/g ,
now the movement of a swing is like a simple pendulum , as the time period of pendulum doesn't depend upon mass of bob so here time period of swing will also not depend upon the mass of girl , and when mass increases on sitting of another girl , time period will not change even now .Therefore time period of the new system is same as of old system .
