Question

A 44 mH inductor is connected to 220 V, 50 Hz ac supply. Determine the rms value of the current in the circuit.

Open in App
Solution

Given: A 44 mH inductor is connected to a 220 V, 50 Hz ac supply.

Inductive reactance of a circuit is given as,

X l =ωL =2πfL

Where, the supply frequency is f and the inductance is L.

The rms current is given as,

I= V X l = V 2πfL

Where, the supply voltage is V.

By substituting the values in the above equation, we get

I= 220 2×π×50×44× 10 3 = 220 13.8 =15.9A

Thus, the value of rms current in the circuit is 15.9A.
