Solution

The correct option is D 48.4 MPa

Let, t = Throat thickness

h = Size of the weld

t = 0.707 h

Direct transverse stress, τ=10×103π×D×t=10×103π×0.05×0.707×15×103×106

τ=6MPa

Bending stress, σ=M×yI (Where, M = 10 × 0.2 × 103 = 2000 N-m)

I=πD3t8=π(0.05)3×0.707×(0.015)8=5.2057×107m4

y=D2=0.052=0.025m

σ=10×103×0.2×0.0255.2057×107×106=96.05MPa

Maximum shear stress, τmax=12σ2+4τ2=12(96.05)2+4×62

τmax=48.4MPa
