Question

A 60 m long train moving on a straight level track passes a pole in 5 seconds.find the speed of the train and the time it will take to cross a 540 m long bridge ?

Open in App
Solution

given datas
length of the train =60 m
and there is a pole in the path of train ,
time taken by the train to pass the pole = 5 second
therefore the speed of the train = distance /time
= 60/5
=12 m/s
to cross the bridge we consider the length of bridge+length of the train ,because to cross the bridge the front of the train as well as back of the train must be crosses
given that lenght of the bridge = 540 meter
total length to be travelled = length of the train +length of the bridge
=60+540
=600 m
the speeed of the train is = 12 m/s
the time taken to cross the bridge = total length/ speed of the train
=600/12
=50 second
