A alone can do a piece of work in 6 days and B alone in 8 days. A and B undertook to do it for Rs. 3200. With the help of C, they completed the work in 3 days. How much is to be paid to C?
The correct option is C Rs. 400
Sol.
Given,
A alone can do a piece of work in = 6 days
∴ A’s 1 day’s work = 16
B alone can do a piece of work in = 8 days
∴ B’s 1 day’s work = 18
Work done by A and B together in one day = 16 + 18
A, B and C together can do a piece of work in = 3 days
∴ 1 day’s work of A,B,C = 13
∴ C’s 1 day’s work = 13–[(16+18]
= 13−724 = 124
A’s wages : B’s wages : C’s wages =
16 : 18 : 124
= 4 : 3 : 1 (∵ LCM of 6,8,24=24)
So, C’s share for 3 days = Rs. (3 × 124×3200) = Rs. 400
