Question

A and B are running around a circular track in opposite directions. They meet at a point 550 m from the starting point and continue running. Now, they meet at a point 350 m from the starting point, but in opposite directions as before. What is the length of the circular track?

Solution

Let the distance between the first and the second meeting points be x.

Now, for the first meet, A will travel 550 metres and B will travel (x + 350) m.

Now, keeping the first meet as the starting point, A will cover x m and B will cover 550 + 350 = 900 m.

If we see carefully, A will cover the same distance every time; thus, x = 550

Hence, length of the track = 350 + 550 + 550

= 1450 m
Hence, 1450 is the correct answer.
