Question

A and B start swimming simultaeously from opposite ends, X and Y respectively of a swimming pool of length 200mts. A crosses, B, reaches the opposite end Y and turns back immediately and again meets B at a distance of 120mts from X. Find the ratio of the speeds of A and B if
i. B has not yet reached the opposite end even once
ii. B has reached opposite end once and turned back.

(i) Total distance travelled by A = 200 + 80 = 280 mts
Total distance travelled by B = 80mys
Ratio of their speeds =/28017/804=17:4
(ii) If B has reached once & towards back
the total distance travelled by B =200 + 120 = 320 mts
& total dist. by A = 280m (as before)
Speed ratio A : B = 280 : 3.0
