Question

A bag containing some two-rupee and five-rupee coin weighs 87 g. The weight of a two-rupee coin is 6 g, and that of a five-rupee coin is 9 g. If there are 3 five-rupee coins, how many two-rupees coins are there in the bag?

Solution

Weight of a five-rupee coin = 9 g
Number of five-rupee coins in the bag = 3
Weight of five-rupee coins in the bag = 9 x 3 = 27 g

Total weight of all the coins in the bag = 87 g
weight of all the two-rupee coins in the bag = 87 - 27 = 60 g
Weight of one two-rupee coin = 6 g
Number of two-rupee coins in the bag = 60 ÷ 6 = 10.

So there are 10 two-rupee coins in the bag.
