Let number of 25 paise coins be x and 50 paise be y.

x + y = 70…(i)

25x + 50y = 3000…(ii)

On multiplying (i) by 25 and (ii) by 1, we get

25x + 25y = 1750

25x + 50y = 3000

(i) - (ii) $\Rightarrow$

− 25y = − 1250

or $y=\frac{1250}{25}=50$

On substituting value of y in (i)

x + 50 = 70

or x = 70 – 50 = 20

$\therefore$ Number of 25 paise coins is 20 and 50 paise coins is 50.
