Let mass of the ball =m

Let before impact, the potential energy of a ball is, E1=mgh1

Here, height of the ball before impact h1=20m

Let after impact, the potential energy of a ball is, E2=mgh2

Here, height of the ball after impact=h2

Step 2: Calculating height of a ball after a loss of 30% energy due to impact

Now according to the question, 30% of the energy is lost in an impact which means only 70% is left after impact. Hence,

E2=0.7E1mgh2=0.7mgh1h2=0.7h1h2=0.7×20h2=14m

Therefore the height of a ball after a loss of 30% energy is equal to 14m
