Let
H1= Initial height before drop =20cm
H2= Initial height after dropping =10cm
As energy is loss, so potential energy after dropping will be fraction of initial potential energy.
Potential energy before dropping =mgh1
=mg(20)
Potential energy after dropping =mgh2
=mg(10)
According to above statement -
mg(10)=Xmg(20)
X=1020=12
Hence, 50% energy is lost.
