Vertical direction: Distance =49 m
49=(1/2)9.8t2
=> t=3.16sec
Let horizontal acceleration be am/s2
Distancehorizontal=0.5at2
Distancevertical=0.59.8t2=4.9t2
We see that both the distances follow the behavior constantt2.
Since at any given time t2 value is same for both the value of horizontal and vertical distances covered is progresses linearly with respect to each other. Hence the ball follow is straight line.
