Question

A ball is thrown up with a speed of 9.8ms-1. What is acceleration due to gravity at the top most point?

Solution

1. The gravitational force always acts on a body while moving upwards or downwards, thus, the body will have constant acceleration while moving upward or downward and the value of acceleration due to gravity is 9.8ms-2.

2. The acceleration due to gravity is always directed towards the center of the earth. So, at the topmost point, the acceleration due to gravity is 9.8ms-2 towards the downward direction.

Hence, the acceleration due to gravity at the topmost point is 9.8ms-2 towards the downward direction.
