Question

A ball is thrown vertically upward with a velocity of 60m/s. The maximum height to which the ball rises is

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given Data

Initial velocity u=60m/s

Final velocity v=0

Let the acceleration due to gravity be g=9.8m/s2

Let the maximum height to which the ball rises be h.

Step 2: Formula Used

Since the ball is moving upwards, the value of g will be taken as negative.

According to Newton's third law of motion

v2=u2-2gh

Step 3: Calculate the Height

Upon substituting the values we get,

0=602-2×9.8×h

h=6022×9.8

h=183.7m

Hence, the maximum height to which the ball rises is 183.7m.
