Question

A ball of mass 1 kg moving with a velocity of 4m/sec collides with a stationary ball. The collision is oblique. After the collision the first moves at right angle to its, initial direction with a velocity of 3m/s. The momentum of the second ball (in kg m/s) after collision would be nearly :

Solution

The correct option is A 5
As the momentum should be conserved the second ball will have a momentum of 4 kgm/s in the original direction and 3kgm/s in the direction opposite to the first ball after collision.

Therefore the net momentum will be M=42+32=5kgm/s
