Question

a balloon filled with an ideal gas is taken from the surface of the sea deep to a depth of 100m what will be its volume in terms of its original volume?

Open in App
Solution

Pressure at the sea level or surface=760mm Hg

It translates into 1033.3 cm H20

Thereafter, furthermore conversion results in 10.3m H20

Pressure at a depth of 100m= 100+ 10/3=110.3m of H20

Applying formula at constant temperature

P1V1=P2V2

P2 and V2 are the respective pressure and volume at 100 m depth

V2= 0.093V1

=9.3% of V1
