Let the pole strength of the magnet be m
Initially, the distance is 2l
The magnetic moment M=m.2l
After bending into an arc of angle θ as shown in the figure, lnew becomes rsinθ2 where rθ=2l
Given θ=π3.
r=6lπ
lnew=rsinπ6=r2
So the new distance between the poles is 2lnew=r=6lπ
New magnetic moment Mnew=m.6lπ=3Mπ
Therefore, the percentage change in magnetic field is MnewMM×100=3ππ×1004.5
Therefore this results in a 4.5% decrease in the magnetic moment.
