A barrier in the shape of a rectangle is used to retain oil spills. On a blueprint, a similar barrier is 9inches long and 2inches wide. The width of the actual barrier is 1.2inches. What is the actual length of the actual barrier?

Find the length of actual barrier.

Given, width of the actual barrier ,w2=1.2inches

Width of the barrier in the blueprint ,w1=2inches

Length of the barrier in the blueprint ,l1=9inches

Since, we know that when figures similar then corresponding sides ratio are equal,

l1l2=w1w2

As, given length and width we have:

9l2=21.2l2=9×1.22l2=5.4

Hence, the length of actual barrier is 5.4inches.
