Question

A battery of emf ϵ0=10 V is connected across a 1 m long uniform wire having resistance 10 Ω/m. Two cells of emf ϵ1=2 V and ϵ2=4 V having internal resistances 1 Ω and 5 Ω respectively are connected as shown in the figure. If a galvanometer shows no deflection at the point P, find the distance of point P in cm from the point A. (Round off the answer to the nearest integer)

If galvanometer shows a zero reading,
i1=1010+10=0.5A
So, VAP=i1×x110=5x
And, i2=425+1=13A
So, VAP=2+i2×1=2+13=73

5x=73

x=0.466 m=46.6 cm47 cm
