$\Rightarrow$ No. of pigeons $+$ No. of ducks $=6,$ similarly
No. of sparrows $+$ No. of ducks $=6$

Adding we have,
$2$ (no. of pigeons + ducks + sparrows) $=18$
No. of pigeons + ducks + sparrows $=\frac{18}{2}=9$.
