Question

A block is attached to an unstretched vertical spring and released from rest. As a result of this, the block comes down due to its weight, stops momentarily, and then bounces back. Finally, the block starts oscillating up and down. During oscillations, match Column I with Column II:

Solution

1) when the block is at its maximum position in downward direction in the spring gets stretched and and stores the potential energy. The in the spring will want to go into the original position so the acceleration will work in the upward direction. Hence option one is correct. (hence option 1 is correct)
2)In equilibrium position the spring is stable it doesnot have the force to move the object hence, acceleration is zero. It may be moving upward or in downward.(hence option 3 and
4 is correct)
3)At this position block is pulled up by spring hence it will have acceleration in upward direction.also, it may go in downward or upward direction so option s and 4 is correct.
4) when block is above equilibrium position & below initial unstretched position, then it's acceleration will be is down ward direction as spring is compressed. And also it may be going upward or in downward direction. Hence, option 2 and 4 is correct.
