Question

A block is lying static on the floor. the maximum value of static friction force on the block is 10 N. If a horizontal force of 6 N is applied to the block, what will be the friction force on the block?

Solution

As the static frictional force =10N

the body will not move for any force less than 10N

whatever force applied if it is less than 10N then it will be applied to overcome static frictional force

here 6N if force is applied

6N will be the magnitude of frictional force on the block

this is because. as we apply 6N the block also apply reaction force 6 N and as Action and reaction are equal and opposite. the block doesn't move.
