A block of mass 1 kg and density 0.8 g cm3 is held stationary with the help of a string as shown in the figure. The tank is accelerating vertically upwards with a constant acceleration a0=1 ms2. Find the acceleration of the block, when the string is cut.
(Given, f=10 ms2 and ρwater=1000 kg m3).

Solution

First, we have to find the tension in the string
1+10+T=1800×1000×10T=1.25Na=1.251=1.25m/s2
