Question

A block of mass 1 Kg is connected with a fixed wall through a light spring of constant K = 100 n/m. The surface are frictionless. Initially spring is in relaxed position. A horizontal force F of 50 N is applied on the block. Find the maximum elongation of the spring.

Solution

Given that,

Mass m=1kg

Spring constant K=100N/m

Force F=50N

Now, the work done by force will store as spring energy

Fx=12kx2

x=2FK

x=2×50100

x=1m

Hence, the maximum elongation of the spring is 1 m
