Question

A block of mass 30.0 kg is being brought down by a chain. If the block acquires a speed of 40.0 cm/s in dropping down 2.00 m, find the work done by the chain during the process.

Open in App
Solution

Given m=30 kg,

v=40 cm/sec

=0.4 m/sec

S=2 m

From the free body diagram, the force given by the chain is

F=(mamg)

=m(ag)

[Where a=acceleration of the block]

a=v2u22S

=164=0.04 m/sec2

So, work done =W=FS cos θ

=m(ag)S cos 0

=30(0.049.8)×2

=30×(9.76)×2

=585.6=586 J

So, W=586 J
