Question

A block of mass m is located on a horizontal plane. The block acquires a horizontal velocity v0 due to friction. Find the mean power developed by the friction force during the motion of the body. The frictional cofficient is μ=0.3,m=2 kg and v0=5 m/s (Take g=10 m/s2)

Solution

The correct option is D 15 watt
The body gains velocity due to friction.
Acceleration due to friction.
a=friction forcemass=μmgm=μgv0=at
t=v0a=v0μg ....(i)

From work energy theorem,
Work done by the friction force = change in K.E.
i.e W=12mv20 .....(ii)
Mean power =Wt

From (i) and (ii) equation,
Mean power =12mv20v0μg=mv0μg2
=12×2×5×0.3×10=15 watts
