Question

A block of wood is floating on water with its dimensions 50 cm × 50 cm × 50 cm inside water.
Calculate the buoyant force acting on the block.
Take g = 9.8 N kg/1

Open in App
Solution

Volume of block wood = 50cm*50cm*50cm
or, volume of block of wood = 50/100m * 50/100m * 50/100m = 1/8m
For floating,
Upthrust/Buoyant force = Weight
Weight = mg
or, weight = volume * density * g
Therefore, Weight = 1/8m * 1000kg/m^3 * 9.8 N/kg
= 1225N
Therefore, Buoyant force = weight = 1225N
