Question

A block slides down an inclined surface of inclination 30o with the horizontal. Starting from rest it covers 8m in the first two seconds. Find the coefficient of kinetic friction between the two.

Solution

frictional force,
f=μmgcosθ

Let the accerelation of block is a

mgsinθf=ma

mgsinθμmgcosθ=ma

a=g(sinθμcosθ)

Distance covered by the block is 8m in 2 seconds.

we have,
8=12at2

8=12g(sinθμcosθ)t2

8=10×12(12μ×32)(2)2 [θ=30]

4=5μ(53)

μ=153
