Question

A block slides down an inclined surface of inclination 30o with the horizontal starting from rest. If it covers 8m in the first two seconds, find the coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the surface.

Open in App
Solution

frictional force is;

f=μmgcosθ

acceleration of block m is;

a=mgsinθfm=mgsinθμmgcosθm=gsinθμgcosθ=10sin30μ×10cos30=553μ ...............(1)

If block covers 8m in 2s starting from rest;

then,

s=ut+12at2

8=12a(2)2

a=164=4m/s2

Putting it in eq. (1);

4=553μ

μ=153
