A blue litmus paper is dipped in dilute HCl solution, it will turn into red because of the acidic nature of HCl solution. Then it is dipped in dilute NaOH solution , the colour of the litmus paper will now depend on the concentration of the NaOH. If the concentration of NaOH solution is higher than the concentration of HCl solution, then litmus paper will again turn into blue and if the concentration of NaOH solution is less than the concentration of HCl solution , then the colour of the litmus paper will fade but remain red.
