Time taken by boat to cross the river t=15min=14hr

Let the speed of river =U

The vector diagram is shown below:

Step 2: Calculating the velocity of river

By observing the vector diagram we can calculate the velocity along the shortest path as below:

Speed in the direction of shortest path=shortestpathtime

And also we know that

time=shortestpathV2-U214=125-U2142=125-U225-U2=16U2=9U=3Kmh-1

Therefore the speed of river is equal to 3Kmh-1.
