Solution

The correct option is D 2 h 40 min
Given:
Boat covers distance of 16 km in a still water in 2 hours.
i.e., velocity of boat
(vB)=162=8 km/h
Now velocity of water
vw=4 km/h

Time taken for going upstream
t1=distancevBwt1=8 kmvBvw=8 km8 km/h4 km/ht1= 2 h

As we know water current oppose the motion of boat
Therefore,
Time taken for going down stream
t1=distancevBwt1=distancevB(vw)t2=8 kmvB+vw=8 km8 km/h+4 km/ht2=812hT=t1+t2
(As water current helps the motion of boat)
Hence,
Total time T=t1+t2=(2+812)hrT=2 h 40 min
