Question

A body can have zero average velocity but not zero average speed. Explain

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

The average velocity is the ratio of displacement by the time taken. The average speed is the ration of distance travelled by the time taken. If a body moves, then it is impossible to have a zero distance travelled. However, zero displacement is possible. Therefore a body can have zero average velocity but not zero average speed.
